About Alan

Tech startup director & software engineer
Former small business owner
Already actively involved at City Hall

A Central Florida native, Alan moved into the area in 1999 to attend UCF, receiving a BS in Computer Science.

He did software engineering for several defense contracting companies in Research Park on various types of simulators for air, sea, and land vehicles. After that he ran his own small business doing consulting, contracting, and giving training on Linux and embedded systems across North America, Europe, and Asia.

He currently works as the director of platform software at SoftIron, a startup which makes hardware and software for cloud computing systems, particularly for security-sensitive deployments.

Alan is also a musician, playing a few instruments, but only really the bass guitar in public. He also sings, and is the tenor section leader and serves on the board of Messiah Choral Society. This non-profit puts on a free, amazing performance of Handel’s Messiah at the Dr. Phillips Center (Steinmetz Hall) every year.

Alan is an Eagle Scout, was a Boy Scout leader for 17 years, and is a member of University Presbyterian Church near UCF.

Alan moved to Oviedo in 2019 with his wife Samantha, a Pharmacist, and their son, a student at Stenstrom Elementary. He attends and regularly contributes to city council meetings and work sessions. He’s not a political insider. Help him bring his experience from the private sector and put it to work for you on the Oviedo city council!
